Michigan State football is no stranger to targeting defensive backs in the transfer portal and Jonathan Smith is continuing that trend this week.

After being connected to Texas cornerback transfer Terrance Brooks, Smith has already reached out to another defensive back and will get him on campus this coming weekend.

Who is this new defensive back?

Cal transfer Kaylin Moore who spent the 2023 season with the Golden Bears after playing his first two seasons for Karl Dorrell and Colorado. He was part of the mass exodus when Deion Sanders took over and played well at Cal last season.

According to SpartanTailgate, Moore will be on campus this weekend for an official visit.

Although he's not the hottest defensive back in the portal, by any means, Moore has the look of a talented backup option who brings plenty of experience. Heck, with the right coaching, he could even be molded into a starter. He did start 17 career games between Cal and Colorado and appeared in 25, totaling 68 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and five pass breakups.

We're currently at the stage of trusting the staff because it has shown that it can develop players much like Mark Dantonio and his staff did in the glory days a decade ago.

Jonathan Smith and Co. aren't likely to go after guys they have no faith in when it comes to development so targeting Moore intrigues me.

We'll see if the staff can lock up a commitment from the former Cal and Colorado defensive back this weekend as he takes in East Lansing.
