Michigan State football: Under-the-radar 2024 WR Jaylan Brown talks MSU offer
The Michigan State football staff has been active on the recruiting trail over the past week, offering prospects all over the nation. Most of these offers have been to class 2025 kids, but an intriguing offer came out to 2024 wideout Jaylan Brown from Nacogdoches, Texas.
When wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins offered Brown, he couldn't help but smile.
Brown said, "With it being so late in the process I knew when he (Hawkins) told me they were coming to see me, I knew I had to show them why because this was my chance. When he told me that they wanted me to come play at MSU. Coming from a very 'nonchalant kid', I felt great smiling from ear to ear knowing that trusting this whole recruiting process and not giving up on anything just continuing to work."
Brown stands tall at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds. He uses his size and length to make high-point catches against corners. His basketball background is shown on film when he leaps for these high-point balls, but also on the way down with his exceptional body control. He had an amazing senior season, catching 55 passes for 910 yards and 11 touchdowns.
As a player, Brown describes himself as, "a big target, long athletic go up and get receiver. I feel like I can make any QB stand out to make the job easier for any team."
Also, Brown noted how his hoops background has helped him on the gridiron. "It helped me with my body control while I’m in the air and quick twitch to get up really fast. Every jump ball I look at it as the game winning rebound for the team, so it makes my 'GoGo Bounce' going."
Hawkins asked Brown if he'd be interested in leaving Texas, to which he replied, “I'd love to explore the world and see new things.”
Brown is working on setting up a visit to Michigan State next weekend.
Adding Brown to the 2024 class would be a huge win for Michigan State. With Nick Marsh on one side of the field and Brown on the other, that would cause lots of problems for defenses in the future.
