It really doesn’t get much better than what we just witnessed. Michigan State football entered its second game of the season as a near double-digit underdog to Maryland, and when everything seemed to be going the Terps' way Michigan State came from behind and beat Maryland 27-24 on a last-second field goal.

Jonathan Smith moves to 2-0 in his Michigan State tenure and has the Big Ten’s only conference win of the season so far. Put all of those things together and it makes for the perfect recipe for some awesome celebrations.

Michigan State’s players, coaching staff and parents immediately took to social media after the game to show their excitement, and here are some of the best reactions I saw.

And the best video of all has to be the one from Nick Marsh’s mom, who posted an emotional video of her and her son embracing each other after his monster game where he caught eight balls for 194 yards and a touchdown.

Doesn’t it feel nice to be this happy after a Michigan State football game again? The last two years under Mel Tucker were not great, and the drama that ensued last year ruined all of the fun that football season usually brings. Thankfully that has changed in a hurry.

Michigan State likely won’t compete for any championships this season, but Jonathan Smith has brought one thing back for Spartan Nation: Hope. All offseason we talked about how Smith could resurrect the program, but the win over Maryland is the first concrete proof of that.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for the program, especially this season. This game was the turning point in the season, so now that they were able to get this win who knows how many more they’ll be able to rattle off.

Michigan State football is back, and man does it feel good saying that.
