Michigan State football is on their hottest stretch of recruiting in quite some time. Every day so far this week Jonathan Smith and his staff have earned a commitment from the transfer portal or high school ranks, sometimes even both.

And the good news isn’t stopping.

Michigan State once again is positioning themselves at the top of another recruits list as they just made the top five for one of the best players from Indiana.

Tyrone Burrus Jr. is a three-star defensive end from Indianapolis. He is about as high of a three-star as possible according to 247Sports as he is rated an 89 which is typically the cutoff line between three-star and four-star status and 247Sports also has Burrus as the No. 28 edge rusher in the country as well as the No. 5 overall player from Indiana.

During his junior season in 2023, Burrus tallied 34 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 19 QB hits. He also is a star in track and field as well, competing in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes as well as the high jump.

Michigan State was one of five teams to make Burrus’ top list as well as Indiana, Kansas, Louisville and Illinois. Louisville and MSU appear to be the teams to beat as they are the two schools 247Sports has labeled warm on his profile. But Indiana also has an official visit scheduled along with MSU and Louisville, so they are a team to monitor as well.

Burrus will be visiting Michigan State June 14 with his visits to Indiana and Louisville sandwiched around it. I imagine a lot of information about his recruitment will come out after those visits, so stay tuned as Michigan State has a good shot to win this recruitment.
