Michigan State football hosting 4-star Michigan DL commit on official
Four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka from Howell set up a couple of in-state official visits this spring despite being committed to Michigan since August. One was obviously to check out the Wolverines and the other was to see Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football.
The Howell-native was set to check out East Lansing on June 14, but many didn't know if that visit was still going to take place since he had been a Michigan pledge for so long.
According to Allen Trieu, he'll still be headed to East Lansing.
Kanka is one of the best prospects in the state of Michigan for 2025 and he's one of those guys who decided between the two Power Four in-state programs. But since he had been committed to Michigan since Mel Tucker was still in East Lansing and Jim Harbaugh was still with the Wolverines, it seems like he's just making sure that he's making the best decision for his future.
Even a perfect visit for Smith could make things difficult because he's planning to visit Michigan the weekend after, but this is a good sign that the Spartans are drawing interest from top in-state kids despite the program being down for the past few years.
Kanka is the No. 383 prospect in the class, the 42nd-best defensive lineman, and the No. 4 recruit from the state of Michigan, per 247Sports.
Also, his only scheduled official visits are to Michigan and Michigan State so we're looking at yet another in-state recruiting showdown. Let's see if Smith can make him think long and hard about his commitment.
