Michigan State football vs. Florida State

Overall Record: 0-2
First Meeting: 1987
Last Meeting: 1988

In 1987, Michigan State was 9-2-1 overall and 7-0-1 in Big Ten action. However, a two-game losing streak in September kept the Spartans from competing for a National Championship.

After opening with a win over No. 19 USC, MSU would fall to No. 9 Notre Dame. Then, No. 6 Florida State came to East Lansing and laid a 31-3 thrashing on the Spartans.

Michigan State would bounce back to rattle off wins in eight of the next nine games. The lone exception was a 14-14 tie with Illinois at home.

A year later, things weren't as rosy. MSU would open 0-4-1 on the year with one of those losses being a 30-7 loss at No. 9 Florida State. The Spartans would rebound with six straight wins starting in mid-October before falling to Georgia in the Gator Bowl for a 6-5-1 overall record.
