Michigan State football has been turning up the pressure on the recruiting trail lately and we have Jonathan Smith to thank for that. He's not necessarily out there landing four and five-star prospects left and right, but he's retained some key members of the 2024 class, convinced others to withdraw from the portal, and he's brought some key players and recruits with him from Oregon State.

And he's not slowing down any time soon.

As we all know, Smith is a former quarterback and that position is where his expertise lies. He's already added a few quarterbacks to the roster after losing Katin Houser, Sam Leavitt, and Noah Kim this offseason.

But he's already looking ahead to the 2025 recruiting class and one of the gems of the cycle.

Michigan State was once considered out of the race for four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery from Findlay, Ohio, but it looks like Smith is making the moves to get him to campus.

Allen Trieu's VIP report on 247Sports is interesting. Montgomery is high on teams like Florida, Georgia, Michigan, and Penn State, but the Smith hire may have piqued his interest. He is the No. 172 overall recruit and 11th-best quarterback in the 2025 class. Plus, he has the right frame to play the position in the Big Ten at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds.

Michigan State has added Aidan Chiles, Alessio Milivojevic, and Ryland Jessee in this class at quarterback from the portal and 2024 high school recruiting and adding Montgomery in 2025 would be massive for the room.

Smith is working his magic yet again.
