2. Rustin Young, 4-star OT

New offensive line coach Jim Michalczik has to be ecstatic about bringing Rustin Young with him to East Lansing. The four-star Hawaii prospect was committed to Oregon State before he officially flipped the day before Early Signing Day and he became the second-highest-rated Spartan signee.

Young is easily considered the biggest Jonathan Smith recruit during this new era although an argument could be made for Nick Marsh -- Smith did convince him to stay, after all.

The Spartans lost a ton to the portal from the offensive line this offseason such as Kevin Wigenton, Spencer Brown, and Geno VanDeMark and other key players like Nick Samac and JD Duplain graduated. The depth up front has taken a hit and it was almost worse when Kristian Phillips, Ethan Boyd, and Brandon Baldwin were all in the portal, too -- they all withdrew.

It'll be imperative for some young guys to push the upperclassmen and make them better and why not the No. 215 overall prospect in the 2024 class who happens to be Smith and Michalczik's first big fish? Young feels like the kind of prospect who could line up as a freshman and make a positive impact along the offensive line.

I'd like to see a line with Young and Stanton Ramil dominating next season.
