Michigan State basketball: Tom Izzo says he still has more left in the tank

We have seen some absolute coaching legends retire over the past few years. Guys like Jay Wright, Roy Williams, and Mike Krzyzewski retired from the basketball world and Nick Saban just stepped down as Alabama's head coach on the gridiron. Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo doesn't want to follow in their footsteps just yet.

There's been a huge question mark on Izzo's back about his potential retirement and it's been following him around for a few years now.

It's well-documented that he doesn't like the direction college athletics are headed with transfer portal and everything else, but he's not willing to hang it up just yet.

In fact, he spoke to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports about his retirement plans and essentially said that this will not be his last season but when he's ready, he's not looking for a farewell tour. Actually, he's likely to go out just like Saban did -- without warning.

But during the interview with Norlander, he talked about the fact that he still loves his job and he loves Michigan State so he doesn't feel like he's ready. He's about to turn 69 and it's fair to ask the question of "when?" but it seems like he has more left in the tank and I'd be shocked if he retired before he won that elusive second national title.

Although he didn't say that in the interview, that's kind of what everyone thinks.

If Izzo does win No. 2 in the near future, I could see him hanging it up, but also knowing how he is, that could only motivate him to win No. 3.

Either way, Izzo doesn't have plans to hang it up any time soon, so breathe easy, Spartan fans.
