For the first time in almost a decade, Michigan State basketball is headed overseas not just for a team bonding trip, but to play against some high-level, professional competition in Spain. Think of these as a couple of exhibition games before every season. They have no true meaning to MSU’s record but are great for helping the team gel and learn to play together.

Usually we don’t get to watch Michigan State basketball in August, but this year, fans are getting spoiled as we get to tune in for all three of Michigan State’s games in Spain. The Michigan State basketball Instagram page is live streaming the games, and early on in the Spartans' first game in Madrid on Thursday there were about 3,000 fans watching.

However, there are a few Spartan celebrities watching the game as well, and by celebrities I mean former players.

Malik Hall, AJ Hoggard, Tyson Walker, Davis Smith, and Aaron Henry were some of the newer Spartan alums watching the game through the MSU live stream on Instagram. Then we also had some older players like Cassius Winston, Marcus Bingham Jr., Kenny Goins, and Kalin Lucas as well. Even a pair of five-star recruits in the 2025 class Cayden and Cam Boozer, who played with current Spartan Jase Richardson in high school, joined in, too.

You gotta imagine all of those guys are feeling a little jealous considering they all recently left the program and just missed out on this trip. But Hoggard especially is probably feeling left out because he still had one year of eligibility remaining he could’ve used to stay at Michigan State instead of transferring to Vanderbilt.

It will be interesting to see if any other former Spartan stars will show up on Instagram to watch these games in Spain. A 1 p.m. ET start time on a Thursday is hard for anyone to watch, but their next game will be sometime on Saturday which will likely draw a much bigger crowd online.
