Michigan State basketball should target No. 1 3-point shooter in the portal

Michigan State basketball is in the midst of their most important offseason in quite some time. After a few down years, it is important for them to make the right deisions to get the program back to where we know it belongs. One of those decisions is who to target in the transfer portal.

Tom Izzo has done a decent job so far at targeting some transfers in the portal -- hello, Frankie Fidler -- but he is yet to earn a commitment from anyone. So until that first commitment comes, it is important for Izzo and the rest of the staff to identify new targets to recruit in the portal.

One recent entrent to the portal, Koby Brea, would be an extremely ideal target for Izzo to at least make initial contact with.

Koby Brea is a 6-foot-6 transfer guard from Dayton. He has spent the past four seasons with the Flyers, but has entered the transfer portal looking for a new team to spend one final season with. Brea is coming off a pretty solid season averaging 11.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Now don't get me wrong, that's a very good season statistically, but it isn't anything that will blow your mind making you think Michigan State must reach out. But there is one thing that absolutely makes him an important transfer to go after.

Brea is the number one 3-point shooter in the transfer portal. This season, he averaged an astonishing 49.8% from beyond the arc. An elite 3-point shooter is something every team could use, but I think the Spartans in particular could really use someone like that next year.

Michigan State was a decent 3-point shooting team this past season. They had games where they shot the ball extremely well, but others where they couldn't buy a basket from deep. Looking ahead to next season now, I don't think there are enough shooters on the team. Tyson Walker and Malik Hall were two of the better shooters on last year's team, but they are both gone. Jaden Akins is the only shooter I 100 percent trust next year, and then you have Tre Holloman who can be streaky from deep as well.

So the Spartans need another shooter next year who can help spread the floor. That is the exact player that Brea is and can be for Michigan State.
