It’s no secret that Michigan State basketball has a lot of work to do in the recruiting world. We’ve now reached July and Tom Izzo and his staff are yet to receive a commitment in the 2025 class. I wouldn’t say it’s panic time yet, but I think we’d all love to see that class begin to take shape.

Even though Michigan State has yet to earn a commitment, it hasn’t been due to a lack of effort. In fact, Izzo has just scheduled two official visits with two of the best prospects in the 2025 class.

Trey McKenney, 5-star G

First up is a recruit you all have likely heard of by now. Trey McKenny is a five-star shooting guard from Flint, Mich., who Izzo and his staff have been after aggressively.

According to 24Sports Composite rankings, McKenney is the No. 16 player in the country and No. 3 ranked shooting guard. McKenney is also the No. 1 player from the state of Michigan as well.

Izzo and his staff have watched McKenney play in person more times than we could likely count, and he clearly is returning the favor with this visit.

McKenney will be visiting Michigan State on Oct. 4 and will also reportedly take visits to USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Creighton. This is quite the interesting top six (if it is that) if you ask me, but it’s one where I love MSU’s chances.

Niko Bundalo, 5-star F

Next up is five-star power forward Niko Bundalo who has also announced an upcoming visit to Michigan State.

Bundalo is another elite prospect Izzo and his staff have been hard after. He comes in as the No. 24 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Bundalo is also the No. 8 power forward in the country and the top prospect from the state of Ohio.

Bundalo is scheduled to visit East Lansing from Sept. 6-8, which comes after another massive visit. The week before his trip to Michigan State, Bundalo will be visiting the two-time reigning national champion UConn Huskies. To be honest, I don’t love MSU’s chances against the Huskies, but you never know what could happen.

Will Michigan State be able to win either of these recruitments? Only time will tell. But you have to love the effort Izzo is making on the recruiting trail. Now we just have to hope he gets rewarded with a big-time commitment soon.
