As we anxiously await the first Michigan State basketball commit in the 2025 class, Tom Izzo has his eyes set on something potentially much greater. One of the gems of the 2026 class.

I’m sure Izzo is still recruiting the 2025 class recruits the most right now, but that isn’t stopping him from opening some doors in the next class either. In fact, Michigan State reportedly is one of the schools who reaches out to the No. 1 recruit in the country the most.

According to High School Top Recruiting, the Spartans are one of 10 schools that reach out to Brandon McCoy Jr. the most.

McCoy is a five-star point guard from Bellflower, Calif. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 1 recruit in the country for the class of 2026.

And that is no surprise after his most recent game.

In Team USA’s game against New Zealand, McCoy went off for 19 points. He also added three rebounds, six assists, and a whopping six steals. Now I don’t know about you, but to me, he sounds like the perfect two-way player.

As you would imagine, many other elite programs are recruiting McCoy right now as well. Duke, Kentucky, UCLA, USC, Michigan, Kansas, Cal, Arizona, and BYU are the other schools that McCoy has said are recruiting him the most.

The competition for McCoy is clearly pretty stiff, but I’m not ever counting Izzo out. He’s beat the best programs in the country for top recruits before, so who’s to say he can’t do it again?

This recruitment still has over a year remaining, so hopefully Izzo and his staff can bring McCoy on campus to show him what Michigan State basketball is all about.
