Michigan State basketball: 3 takeaways from horrible loss to Ohio State
1. Tom Izzo is entering dangerous territory
No one wants to hear it or admit it, but Tom Izzo is entering a dangerous stage in his coaching career that eerily resembles that of Mark Dantonio's final few years.
Izzo is still winning and making NCAA Tournaments (hopefully this year, too) but the Hall of Fame head coach is not adjusting to the times and his stubbornness is costing this program dearly.
On Sunday, he got out-coached by Jake Diebler who was coaching in just his third game since Chris Holtmann was fired. That's unacceptable. He was out-dueled by a first-time head coach on his own floor and the reason the Spartans lost was because he mismanaged lineups late in the game.
Sure, guys like Malik Hall and AJ Hoggard needed to step up and they just didn't take over like they can, but Izzo is responsible for who is on the floor at the end of the day.
This is now the fourth straight season of mediocrity. That's dangerous territory.
