Maryland head coach details what their game plan vs. Michigan State football was
One of my favorite things to do after Michigan State football wins a game is going and seeing what their opponent has to say. A lot of times you get to hear them praise what MSU did well while also hearing them detail how the Spartans prevented their game plan from working.
And that's exactly what Maryland head coach Mike Locksley said after his team lost to MSU on Saturday 27-24. The way he detailed what went wrong however is hilarious and definitely worth making note of.
"Our goal was to make him (Aidan Chiles) beat us throwing the football. And guess what? He did."
- Mike Locksley
If we're being honest, making Aidan Chiles beat you through the air wasn't a bad strategy. Chiles was only entering his second career game as a starter and was fresh off a disappointing week one performance against FAU where he only completed 10 of 24 passes for 114 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions.
But thankfully for Michigan State, Maryland's plans to make Chiles beat them in the air did not work on Saturday.
After a slower start to this game as well, Chiles woke up and threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He did this somewhat efficiently as well by completing nearly 62 percent of his passes.
Now his play was far from perfect as Chiles did throw three interceptions, but he made up for it when it mattered most by connecting with freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh not once, but twice on deep balls, including a 77-yard strike to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.
I doubt any team the rest of the season will dare Chiles to beat them through the air, but for now we can enjoy this quote knowing that Chiles beat Maryland the one way that they didn't think he could.
