Michigan State basketball's star point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. has been one of the biggest bright spots so far this offseason for the Spartans. Not only is he fully healthy again after his major injury last December, but he is also playing some high-level basketball as the season approaches.

That was seen both during Moneyball in July and during the team's recent trip to Spain.

Fears entered this offseason in a heated battle to become the Spartans' starting point guard, but once Michigan State began playing their games in Spain it became apparent that he was the obvious choice to start at point guard.

But that isn't the only takeaway that people have had about Fears this offseason. Some people, myself included, have gone as far as to say that he could be the next great point guard at Michigan State. And by that, we don't mean a really good player, we're talking up there with the likes of Mateen Cleaves and Cassius Winston.

While that may sound insane to say, it sounds a little less insane when you hear it from one of the all time greatest basketball players in sports history.

"When you think about the great point guards Michigan State has had, it’s all about basketball IQ and knowing when to pass to get the guys involved and then also when to score."

Magic Johnson then continued by saying, “Jeremy fits right into that.”

Magic is easily the best basketball player and point guard to come through Michigan State. So he more than anyone else knows what he's talking about when it comes to the position.

So for him to go out of his way and say that Fears has the same potential that I see in him, being that he could end his career as one of the all-time great Michigan State Spartans, is very significant. Magic wouldn't say this about anyone, he always calls it how he sees it. So if he says to have high expectations for Fears then that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Now I don't expect Fears to cement himself as one of the all-time greats this season, but I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised at his skill set compared to what Michigan State has had in years past. But give Fears a few more years and I guarantee he will be regarded as one of the best players in the Big Ten and in the country.
