Michigan State football is just three weeks away, can you believe that?

We are so close to seeing the team under Jonathan Smith for the first time, and I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a season.

While waiting for the season is still tough to get through, Michigan State football’s official social media accounts have been hooking us up with some awesome clips to get through the last few weeks of the offseason. The most recent came on Thursday when they mic’d up quarterback Aidan Chiles during practice.

This is the best chance we’ve had as fans to get up close and personal with Chiles and see what he’s like on the field as a player and leader, and the video below did not disappoint.

There are so many takeaways from this short video alone, but here are three things I learned about Chiles as a leader.

1. Motivating teammates

One of the things that excites me the most from this video about Chiles’ leadership is how often he is motivating his teammates.

Countless times you see Chiles hyping up his teammates on both sides of the ball. You especially see it when the team is stretching before practice officially gets going which is arguably when the team needs it most. With everyone looking forward to the start of the season, it can be tough to go through practice after practice in the fall without having a game to look forward to at the end of the week.

But when your starting quarterback is this excited it’s hard to not feed off that.

2. Extremely competitive

Chiles is also being extremely competitive during these clips as well, especially when they show the portion of offense vs defense drills.

Whether Chiles is on the field or not, he’s yelling and cheering and doing whatever he can to beat the Michigan State defense. That’s going to push each player to be as competitive as they can be as well, which will only make everyone and the team better on the field.

3. Humor and having fun

The last thing I saw from Chiles in this clip that I love is that he’s still having fun and joking around with the team.

Yes Chiles needs to be focused on his preparations for the season ahead, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have fun at the same time. A couple times during this clip you see him making jokes with other players or coaches and even saying hi to his family at home.

In order to be an effective leader you have to be relatable, you have to be a fun person to be around, and it looks like Chiles is just that for this team.
