This is another example of how special the Michigan State community is.

Michigan State football is off to a perfect 3-0 start after their dominant win against Prairie View A&M, but that doesn’t mean the season has been perfect by any means.

One of the things that’s been far from perfect is the unfortunate amount of injuries MSU has already suffered. And I’m not talking small injuries where a player may only miss a game or two, I’m talking about season ending injuries.

One of the first big blows to Michigan State this season was losing starting right guard Kristian Phillips for the season from a lower body injury during the Spartans' Week 1 win over Florida Atlantic. Fast forward three weeks and Phillips just had surgery at the hospital and when Phillips woke from surgery he was presented with a very touching poster to help cheer him up.

I count 12 different messages on this poster for Phillips helping cheer him up and urging him to recover fast to get back on the field. “Can’t wait to see you back on the field” and “Good luck and speedy recovery. We love our #71” are just a few of the wonderful comments left on this poster.

This goes to show how amazing the Michigan State community truly is. Usually when a player gets injured we as fans, students, alumni or even staff members are upset for a few days then move on to whoever’s the next man up. But not at Michigan State. It’s so awesome seeing Phillips receive this support during one of the most difficult times in his life.

So here’s to a quick recovery that will hopefully see Phillips return to the field before this coming offseason gets underway. There isn’t a chance we’ll see him on the field again this year, so hopefully Phillips can start building toward next season where he can prove how much of a force he is on the field.
