Michigan State football continues to roll as the Spartans more than handled Prairie View A&M on Saturday, 40-0.

Michigan State did exactly what they were supposed to do against such a weak opponent, and that’s probably the most important takeaway from this game. But a few more specific things stood out to me, so let’s dive in with my top three takeaways from the Spartans' third victory of the season.

1. Charles Brantley sets program record

I have no choice but to highlight someone when they set a program record, and that’s exactly what defensive back Charles Brantley did.

With Prairie View deep in Michigan State territory with the first half coming to a close, Brantley picked off the Panther quarterback and returned it all the way for a touchdown. This wasn’t an ordinary pick six however as Brantley returned it from the Spartan’s end zone over 100 yards to put MSU up 27-0 at the half. And according to Chris Solari, this was the longest interception returned for a touchdown in program history.

Brantley is off to a hot start this season and is one of the biggest reasons for the vast improvement we’ve seen from Michigan State’s defense so far this year.

So let’s hope he keeps this up as the meat of MSU’s schedule is finally here.
