Ken Talley makes bold prediction regarding Paul Bunyan Trophy
After Michigan State football's big road win on Saturday, Spartan Nation was feeling great. Vibes were high on social media and players were taking to their personal accounts to join in the fun. One notable Spartan had a message for fans that got me and a few other fans very pumped. That player would be defensive end and pass rush specialist Ken Talley.
He had this message for Spartan fans:
File this under things you absolutely love to see.
Obviously you want the team focused on the task ahead. Like Talley said, it’s one week at a time. There are a lot of tough games ahead for the Spartans so it is good that they are focused on what’s in front of them. But on top of that, he’s also keeping another main goal in mind: bringing Paul Bunyan home.
Mark Dantonio always made it a point. Keep the school down the road in the back of your mind. What are we doing today to help beat Michigan down the road? As fans, that is the mindset that endeared us to Coach D’s teams the most. That rivalry is and will always be personal.
For what it’s worth, it seems like it is starting to become that for this team, too.
Paul has spent far too much time in that awful town down the road and he needs to be back in his rightful home in East Lansing. I absolutely love that bringing him back is in the back of Talley's mind. I can only hope the other players are thinking about this goal as well.
The Spartans will get their chance at bringing him back home soon. They travel to Ann Arbor on Oct. 26. The Wolverines have won the last two games of the rivalry after MSU won its first two games against Michigan under Mel Tucker. Over the past 16 games, however, the Spartans do hold a 10-6 edge. I can't wait for this year's game.
