Michigan State had just one more day to survive before the transfer portal officially closed, but disaster is appearing to strike the program. The portal closes on May 1, meaning that Tuesday marked the last day for any players to enter the portal and change teams before next season.
Jonathan Smith already saw two offensive lineman enter the portal when Ethan Boyd and Geno VanDeMark made their announcements early on Tuesday, now it's a running back who is adding their name in as well.
Michigan State running back Jaren Mangham has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, @On3sports has learned.

Michigan State running back Jaren Mangham is the latest Spartan to enter his name into the portal on the final day. This news, similarly to the two offensive linemen already mentioned, is very surprising as you typically don't see this many players enter the portal at this stage of the cycle.
Mangam has spent just one season at Michigan State, where he only appeared in six games due to injury. In those six games, Mangham only registered 30 carries for 81 yards. So on paper this really isn't a huge loss for Michigan State and is one I think they can easily overcome.
Michigan State has already earned a transfer running back commitment in Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams, who ran for over 1,100 yards last season. The Spartans also have Nate Carter returning next season as well, so the Spartans already have a solid one-two punch in the backfield that were likely both ahead of Mangham on the depth chart.
But still, losing a veteran player like Mangham hurts. It makes it feel even worse that it happened so late in the cycle, but if he wants to try and use this as leverage for a better NIL deal then I hope Smith doesn't give him the time of day.
Best of luck to Mangham wherever he ends up, I personally just hope it's not back at Michigan State.
