For the second time, Ethan Boyd has decided to leave Michigan State football and enter the transfer portal. The first time he did this earlier this offseason, he was convinced to withdraw his name and return to East Lansing. That doesn't seem to be the case this time around.

Shortly after landing Ed Woods in the transfer portal from Arizona State, Boyd announced that he would be leaving the program seemingly due to his spot on the depth chart.

Boyd was quiet this spring and didn't appear during the Spring Showcase so it seemed like he was either injured or had made a business decision for himself. The latter now looks to be the case as Boyd will be looking for a new school with two years of eligibility remaining.

While this is a tough loss for the depth on the offensive line, it shouldn't hurt the Spartans too badly because they are bringing in a couple of solid transfers to boost the group.

It felt like Boyd was falling behind on the depth chart and this spring confirmed that.

Boyd started three games last season at right tackle and showed some promise, but it seems like the new coaching staff just didn't have a spot for him in the starting rotation. The East Lansing native will leave home to find a spot where he can start or play extended snaps next season.

The Spartans have lost over a dozen players to the transfer portal since the spring window opened on April 16 and it's closing on Wednesday so we could hear more names hitting it soon.
