How each former Michigan State football QB fared in battles with new teams
2. Sam Leavitt, Arizona State
Sam Leavitt is by far the most intriguing quarterback on this list. He spent one season at Michigan State, and after watching him and the two other quarterbacks that we’ll discuss later it is very clear that he should’ve been the starter the entire season.
And Leavitt once again proved this fall that he has the potential to be a great quarterback as he won the starting battle at Arizona State.
Usually you don’t think of Arizona State as being a great football program, so Leavitt winning the starting job may not be all that surprising to you. But Leavitt won the job over four-year veteran quarterback Jeff Sims.
I think many thought Leavitt would lose the job to Sims this season because of the vast difference in experience between the two, but he is showing once again what Michigan State fans saw last season in that he is a very good quarterback.
Of all the guys on this list, Leavitt is the quarterback I’m likely to support the most, and with Arizona State moving to the wide-open Big 12, anything is possible for him.
