In case you didn’t already know, Michigan State basketball star Jeremy Fears has a younger brother who is entering his senior season of high school. Jeremiah Fears is almost as good as the Spartans' Fears, as he is ranked the No. 32 player in the country and No. 6 combo guard.

Fears has been committed to Big Ten foe Illinois since January, but in what is some shocking news he has now reopened his recruitment.

Back when Fears recruitment was still open, Michigan State was one of the top teams he was considering. Maybe that had to do with his older brother already being in East Lansing, but MSU was one of the teams Fears was deciding between.

Clearly his initial recruitment didn’t go MSU’s way, but would it make sense for Tom Izzo to target him again?

On paper, it seems pretty obvious Michigan State should go after him. He’s one of the top players in his class and MSU already has his brother who seems to love everything about Michigan State.

But unfortunately it sounds like Fears wants to reclassify to the 2024 class. That means he would be looking for a program to join right now to begin his college career this season.

That’s why this is a problem for MSU. The Spartans already have all 13 of their scholarships filled for this season, so there isn’t room for Fears if he does reclassify to 2024.

However, if he ends up staying in the 2025 class Michigan State has to go after him aggressively. He has all the makings of becoming an elite player and has even been slowly rising in the recruiting rankings. And with Michigan State’s 2025 class still empty, they clearly have the room for him.

We’ll likely find out rather quickly if Fears does reclassify or not, but all Spartan fans should hope that he doesn’t so Izzo can try to work his magic and get the next great Fears in East Lansing as well.
