Former Michigan State basketball star Travis Trice wins major award
From time to time I think about random Michigan State basketball players and the impact they had during their time in East Lansing. One of the players that comes to my mind quite often is Travis Trice.
Trice is probably one of the more underrated players in the Tom Izzo era and is single handedly responsible for carrying the 2015 MSU team to the Final Four.
Everyone remembers the countless big shots Trice hit, especially in his senior season when he averaged over 15 points per game. But what was a superstar college career unfortunately never turned into a superstar NBA career.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t a superstar where he plays his professional ball today.
Trice currently plays for Criollos de Caguas of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico, and it appears there is no bigger superstar in that league. In fact, Trice just capped off an MVP season, one in which he narrowly beat out former Ohio State Buckeye Jared Sullinger for the award.
Trice’s MVP season saw him average an impressive 21.3 points and 7.7 assists per game. And the plays he was making each and every night were absurd. Just three weeks ago Trice went off for 39 points as well as four rebounds and seven assists. I highly recommend watching those highlights.
Now I know the league Trice plays in isn’t the NBA, but that doesn’t mean what he’s doing isn’t impressive. The guys he goes up against every night are legit pros still, so to be the best player in the league is wildly impressive.
I doubt Trice will ever get another chance at the NBA again due to his size and age, but that’s OK. He’s continuing to make a name for himself and remind us Michigan State fans every day of the greatness he displayed at MSU.
