Would this season be a success?

Would a 7-5 season this year be considered a success? The expectations are much higher than this at Michigan State, but all things considered I would be extremely happy with this record. Michigan State hasn't been to a bowl game in two years, so just getting back to bowl eligibility is a huge deal.

Another thing to determine if this season is a success is how MSU does against the best teams on their schedule. Like I mentioned earlier, last season was a disaster against Michigan State's quality opponents. But if the Spartans can be competitive and have close losses against Ohio State, Oregon, and Michigan, that would give me more confidence in the trajectory of the program.

So while a 7-5 season on paper isn't good enough at Michigan State, I think most fans would be happy with this. The team isn't ready to compete for championships yet, but a quality season where they make a bowl game would be a huge step in the right direction towards that goal.
