Games 5-8

Game 5: Ohio State
Game 6: at Oregon
Game 7: Iowa
Game 8: at Michigan

Remember when I said a few of Michigan State's non-conference games were automatic wins? The exact opposite is the case in this stretch of games. This very well could be the toughest four-game stretch in the Big Ten this season as three of the four opponents will likely be top 10 teams and fighting for a conference championship.

How about we get the three likely losses out of the way first? I personally just don't see a way that Michigan State can compete with Ohio State, Oregon, and Michigan. I do think MSU will be more competitive against these good teams compared to last year, but I don't think Michigan State is quite ready to compete with the best teams in the country yet. Give Smith 2-3 more years and maybe it'll be a different story, but for now I'm marking these three games as losses.

Then you have Iowa at home in the seventh game of the season. If you remember last season, Michigan State almost pulled off the upset win at Iowa. This year's Michigan State team will be better than last year's and I think Iowa will take a step back this year as well. Add in the fact that this is a home game and I think Michigan State will get the win here.

A 1-3 record is by no means good in any four-game stretch, but considering the strength of these teams I think we can live with that this year.

Record: 4-4
