In case you missed it, last week Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles went viral after he told MSU fans to "bet the over" when asked about the Spartan's upcoming game with Florida Atlantic.

Chiles later clarified that this comment was about the team's season win total and not the FAU game specifically, but that didn't stop every major sports network from running wild with this comment.

It also didn't stop the Spartans' upcoming opponent, the Florida Atlantic Owls, from seeing Chiles' comments either.

One Owl in particular, who just so happens to be a captain of the Florida Atlantic team, was asked about these comments and if it is fueling their team. His response, to his credit, was textbook.

"We’ve felt the same way we’ve been feeling before we heard the comments. So we’re just ready to go out there and show what we can do."

I wish this player clapped back at Chiles and called him out for feeling this confident. I want there to be as much juice heading into this game as possible as you can never have too much motivation for your team. But unfortunately that's not what happened.

The Florida Atlantic player gave the standard reply most captains would give, so hats off to him for taking the high road.

In the long run it's probably best that he chose to respond the way he did because it turns out Chiles meant no ill-will to FAU either. So instead of there being bad blood between these teams on Friday night we can have a calm environment to open the Jonathan Smith era in East Lansing which honestly is for the better for a non-conference game.

We're now just two short days from kickoff, so let's hope Chiles and the rest of the Michigan State football team can validate his comment and start the season off with a bang.
