Michigan State football opened up the 2024 season with a 16-10 win over FAU and it was, well, underwhelming to say the very least.

The Spartans looked solid for a couple of quarters, building a 16-3 lead at the half, but they were blanked in the second half and nearly everyone was ready to hit the panic button. But there's no reason to panic just yet as it was the first game in a Spartan uniform for a good chunk of starters and there's really only one way to go from here: up.

Michigan State heads to College Park on Saturday for its first Big Ten contest of the season and the Terrapins are coming off a blowout win over UConn where they looked legit.

So that got me thinking: What would EA Sports College Football 25 predict?

What is now becoming a weekly series, I ran a simulation for Michigan State at Maryland and the results were, well, not overly shocking.

Results of simulation between Michigan State football and Maryland

The final score of the College Football 25 simulation was 24-17 in favor of Maryland. The Terrapins battled back-and-forth with the Spartans and even though Michigan State held a late 17-16 lead in the fourth, Maryland scored the go-ahead touchdown and 2-point conversion and there was no response from the good guys.

Maryland also out-gained the Spartans

Aidan Chiles led the passing attack for the Spartans, going 14-for-31 through the air for 222 yards and two touchdowns. His top target was Montorie Foster Jr. who had three catches for 91 yards and a score and Jaron Glover had four catches for 53 yards and the other touchdown.

On the ground, Nate Carter led the way with 69 yards on 16 carries.

Other notable performances include:

Player

Stats

Brennan Parachek

3 catches for 37 yards

Jordan Turner

10 total tackles, 1 sack

Malik Spencer

10 tackles, 1 pass breakup, 1 forced fumble

Armorion Smith

7 total tackles

Caleb Coley

1 tackle, 1 interception

Overall, not a horrible showing, but hopefully the Spartans have better luck in College Park on Saturday afternoon.
