For some reason, Michigan State basketball is shooting up preseason rankings as the offseason progresses this summer. Don't get me wrong, I think MSU is going to have a much better team than most people think, but even I am a little perplexed by what I saw today.

You always need to take preseason rankings with a grain of salt, especially when they rank Michigan State much higher than even the biggest MSU fans think. But what I'm about to say is beginning to become a trend, a trend that I did not see coming.

Michigan State was once again just predicted to win the Big Ten according to a basketball analyst.

Terrence Oglesby is a well-respected basketball analyst who has been featured on pretty much every major sports TV network including ESPN, FOX, CBS Sports, and NBA TV. So it's safe to say that his opinion is respected in the basketball community. But even I am shocked that he is picking this Michigan State team to win the Big Ten.

But like I said, this is now becoming a trend. Just last week a sportsbook in Vegas updated their odds and have Michigan State as the betting favorite to win the Big Ten as well.

The timing for all of this seems random, but these two updates both came directly after Michigan State's trip to Spain. The Spartans looked very strong on that trip, going 2-1 against some high level professional teams. So maybe others watching at home saw what Michigan State fans saw and think that the Spartans have been underrated this offseason so far.

Time will tell if Michigan State actually wins the Big Ten or not, and if MSU does I think this could be Tom Izzo's most shocking season of his career. But even though these rankings mean absolutely nothin, it's always nice to see people respect the program and predict them to do well.
