Now this is something I never thought I’d write this season, let alone in mid-August. But Michigan State basketball is officially the favorite to win the Big Ten this season.

Now before you start booking your trip to the 2025 Final Four, let’s pump the brakes a little. First off, it’s only August, so crowning this team as a champion of anything would be ludicrous at this point.

Also is the fact that a lot of college basketball experts and analysts don’t have Michigan State winning the Big Ten this season. Most that I’ve seen have had MSU around the 4-6 range which is probably more realistic.

But for reasons unknown, Caesar’s Sportsbook currently has Michigan State as the favorite to win the Big Ten. I also did a little research and found one other sportsbook with odds posted, and they have Michigan State with the second-best odds to win the conference behind UCLA.

So what gives? Where is all of this hype for Michigan State all of a sudden coming from?

Maybe the sportsbooks saw Michigan State dominate the Valencia All-Stars on Sunday. Sure it was just an exhibition game, but a 105-59 win against professionals will surely raise some eyebrows.

Other than that though there really isn’t anything concrete to base this off of. Maybe the sportsbooks just really trust that Tom Izzo will figure it out this season? He’s done it many times before so that would be a safe assumption.

Regardless, if I were you I wouldn’t go to these sportsbooks and bet on Michigan State to win the conference just yet. Especially considering you can probably find better odds elsewhere.

But here’s to hoping these sportsbooks know something we don’t and Michigan State does in fact compete for a Big Ten title this winter.
