A major injury strikes Michigan State football yet again
The vibes surrounding the Michigan State football program are rightfully high after their 27-24 upset win at Maryland over the weekend, but those good feelings are quickly fading for one major reason.
Injuries.
The Spartans just can’t catch a break this season when it comes to injuries. Michigan State suffered a fair amount during their Week 1 win over Florida Atlantic, and those injuries are continuing to add up after the Maryland win.
During Jonathan Smith’s press conference on Monday, he announced another long term injury suffered by a member of the Spartans' secondary.
Sophomore cornerback Chance Rucker will be out for 6-8 weeks with an upper body injury according to Smith. Now I won’t sit here and tell you that losing Rucker is the end of the world if he was the only injury, but unfortunately for Michigan State’s secondary he is the third of the group to go down with an injury already this season.
After the Spartans' first game against FAU, Smith shared three guys that suffered significant injuries, and two of them were in the secondary. Rucker now joins Dillon Tatum and Khalil Majeed as the third defensive back to suffer a significant injury this season.
Like I already mentioned, any one of these injuries on their own wouldn’t be all that bad, but when you combine all three together is when things get scary. The Spartans' secondary has been a major problem in recent years, but so far it looked like this group was going to be much improved this season. That all goes away now that these three contributors to the secondary are injured.
Now your guess is as good as mine regarding how good or bad this unit will be moving forward.
I’ll be interested to see how this group plays the rest of the season, but one thugs for sure now, I am very concerned.
