The newest member of the 2025 Michigan State football recruiting class has officially committed and this is a big one. Jonathan Smith has been doing an excellent job building this class during June, and that continues today as he just received a commitment from a five-star recruit from the state of Michigan.

Jack Wills is a five-star long snapper from Hudsonville, Mich. He is the No. 2 ranked long snapper in the country and the top long snapper from the state of Michigan as well.

Now before you jump to any conclusions, yes I realize he is just a long snapper and not at a more "important" position like some of you may be thinking. But this pickup is still massive. Special teams is severly overlooked by everyone, and having an elite special teams unit that can flip the field when the offense stalls is extremely underrated.

So while the punter gets most of the credit for flipping the field, it all begins with the long snapper. We all have seen countless examples of long snappers snapping the ball over the punters head or snapping the ball way too low and causing a fumble (Trouble with the Snap). So having an elite player at this position is extremely important.

And Wills is as elite as they come for the position. Michigan State's special teams haven't been that strong as of late, but hopefully that will all change starting with Wills.

This may not be the flashiest pickup of the recruiting cycle, but it's moves like this that will help set the foundation for many years to come. If we want Michigan State to compete for Big Ten Championships they need to be solid at every position, and Wills will have long snapper covered for MSU for a very long time.
