5 recruits Michigan State football leads for according to On3
Michigan State football’s 2025 class currently sits at 16 commits. While this is a very solid number for the end of July it by no means is enough for a complete class. This means that Jonathan Smith and his staff still have some work to do on the recruiting trail as the season approaches.
On top of finishing out the 2025 class, Smith and his team need to continue working on next year’s 2026 class as well. Michigan State doesn’t have a commit in that class yet (which isn’t anything to be concerned about), but they need to continue to push hard for those recruits to set themselves up down the line.
Thankfully it appears the Spartans are trending in the right direction with many of their targets. In fact, according to On3 Michigan State currently leads for these five recruits.
1. Christian Pierce, LB
The first recruit Michigan State is leading for us Christian Pierce from Chicago.
Pierce is a three-star linebacker in the 2024 class and is the No. 533 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 57 linebacker and No. 15 player from Illinois as well.
So far Pierce has had a very quiet recruitment. According to his 247Sports and On3 profile, he didn’t take any official visits yet this summer which is very strange. However, Pierce did take an unofficial visit to Michigan State in April, which shows he does have some interest in MSU.
On3 gives Michigan State a slight lead in his recruitment with a 25.1% chance to earn his commitment. Rival Michigan sits in second place currently with a 21.9% chance to win.
Even though his recruitment has been extremely quiet, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a lot of elite offers. On top of the two Michigan schools, Ohio State, Penn State, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas A&M, and many others have offered him.
A commitment from Pierce any time soon would be shocking since he hasn’t been on many visits, but I anticipate he will start taking visits this fall during the season. So look for Smith to be aggressive and try to bring him to campus later this fall for a game.
