4. Jaxon Kohler is unstoppable at Moneyball

For better or for worse, Jaxon Kohler at this point should be called Mr. Moneyball.

This is Kohler’s third Moneyball of his career, and he seems to go nuclear every single time. In the past it was to the point where fans thought he could be one of the best players on the team when the regular season rolled around.

We’ve obviously learned that isn’t the case and we should tamper our expectations based on Moneyball results, but it’s so hard to do that when Kohler keeps having these insane performances.

On Thursday, Kohler exploded for 41 points. He also went 7-for-9 from the free throw line which is really encouraging to see as well. Kohler didn’t knock any 3-pointers down like Zapala, but Michigan State doesn’t need every one of its bigs to do that.

All around, this was just another strong performance from Kohler. I know I just said we shouldn’t let Moneyball performances impact our expectations for guys in the regular season too much, but I think it’s fair to be more excited about Kohler than we previously were. Especially coming off last season when he was injured for the first half of the year, it’s huge to see him this dominant and fully recovered from that injury, something that never really felt true during the second half of last season.
