3. Win more games

This one may seem obvious, but Michigan State just needs to win more games.

It’s no secret that great players want to play where they can win, and Michigan State hasn’t been a winner recently. Not many will willingly sign up to play for a program that’s failed to make a bowl game two straight seasons. When that happens, recruiting will plummet to barely squeaking in the top 50 like we see now.

But a couple good seasons would change that in a hurry. Just imagine what could happen if MSU goes out this season and lights the world on fire. Even an 8-4 season would do wonders for recruiting when you consider the college football world expects Michigan State to miss a bowl game again.

But if Jonathan Smith can string two or three quality seasons together, that will take the Spartans' recruiting to a level that hasn’t been seen since Dantonio was running the Big Ten. And who knows, maybe it’ll be even better than that.
