3 takeaways from Michigan State basketball's BTT win over Minnesota
2. The guard play was fantastic
Aside from the aforementioned Tre Holloman, Michigan State's three-headed monster on the perimeter of Tyson Walker, AJ Hoggard, and Jaden Akins were fantastic on Thursday.
The trio of starting guards finished with 41 points on a combined 16-of-27 from the floor and they were great defensively. We saw active hands from guys like Walker and Akins throughout the second half which led to easy fast-break buckets and truly flipped the momentum. The three guards finished with five steals and 11 assists. It was just a great two-way game for the three guards -- and Holloman.
Tom Izzo even said heading into the NCAA Tournament that the Spartans could make a legit run this year because they have elite guard play which just hasn't lived up to its potential. Well, it did just that on Thursday even with Walker starting the game slow -- he came on later as the closer (again).
If the guards can play like this moving forward, Michigan State will be one of the toughest teams to beat in March and we already know no one will want to be matched up with them in the bracket.
