3 takeaways from Michigan State basketball players at night one of Moneyball
In case you missed it, Tuesday night was the first night of Moneyball, an annual Pro Am event pairing Michigan State basketball players with other top players from the area to play in multiple scrimmages.
Twelve Michigan State players are playing in the event this summer and are evenly split between six teams, and Tuesday night we got to get our first look at what the team next year could look like.
How much has Xavier Booker developed? How do the new pieces to the team look? Is anyone standing out and making a new name for themselves? Those are just some of the questions that were not just answered on Tuesday night, but will continue to be answered throughout the summer.
Now that the first games are complete, let’s jump into the three things that stuck out to me the most.
1. Frankie Fidler is the real deal
By far the biggest acquisition to Michigan State this offseason was transfer forward Frankie Fidler. Fidler was a standout player at Omaha for three seasons who exploded last season for 20.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Yes those are amazing stats, but the biggest counter point to them was that Fidler did it in a small conference. While that is true, I think he will perform at or near that level for Michigan State, and his performance at Moneyball on Tuesday backs that up.
Fidler went off for 32 points on Tuesday, including this tough fadeaway jumper.
If MSU’s going to have a great year next season, it will be because of Fidler. And his performance on Tuesday increases my confidence in him even more.
