1. Safety

While it would have been easy (lazy) to include the entire defensive backfield here, I think the safety position is the most concerning group on the roster.

After losing starting safety Jaden Mangham to the portal, there really are no proven players outside of Malik Spencer left at the position outside of maybe Angelo Grose who is more of a nickelback. He does have experience at safety but will he be forced into that spot because of the departure of Mangham? It's looking that way.

Dillon Tatum is another player who has experience at safety and could make the switch back after playing primarily cornerback in 2023 because of the Mangham departure.

Armorion Smith returns and Spencer should be a star in the defensive backfield this season, but there's no depth there in case injuries happen -- which they always do with Michigan State.

I have a feeling Jonathan Smith is going to add a safety or two from the transfer portal in the coming months. But right now, this is the most concerning position group on the roster.
