2. Kur Teng shines as underdog

Incoming freshman Kur Teng may have just had the best Moneyball performance of the summer. Teng finished with 42 points including five 3-pointers and really took control of the game all night.

Now his 42 points aren’t the most we’ve seen from someone in one game this summer, but it was extremely impressive when you consider who he went up against.

Teng’s team faced two current Spartans like they do every game, but they also had the misfortune of going up against two former Spartans as well. Tyson Walker and Marcus Bingham Jr. played in Moneyball on Tuesday and they teamed up with Tre Holloman and Carson Cooper’s team.

It would be easy for a freshman to back down in this moment, but Teng did the exact opposite. He was fearless and went right after them. Teng led his team to victory behind his 42 points when most thought there was no chance his team would be able to win.

That fearlessness and desire to win should translate well to the regular season. I still don’t anticipate Teng will play much this season, but he is proving he can be extra effective when he does get on the court.
