2. Big men shine from 3-point range

Something that’s becoming somewhat of a trend this summer at Moneyball is the development of Michigan State’s bigs. Specifically when it comes to having an effective 3-point shot.

That once again was on display Thursday night, but this time it was a host of Spartan bigs who found success from deep.

This includes freshman Jesse McCulloch who scored 31 points with three 3-pointers, transfer Szymon Zapala who contributed 28 points and two 3-pointers, and Xavier Booker who scored 20 points with two 3-pointers as well.

Now we do need to take this development with a grain of salt, kind of like we do with everything at Moneyball. One reason is because defense is never too great at Moneyball, so it makes it much easier for anyone to score at will from anywhere on the court. Then we need to factor in if Tom Izzo will even allow those guys to shoot from behind the arc.

We all know Booker will be encouraged to do so during the regular season, but will McCulloch and Zapala? Only time will tell.
