3. Michigan State’s starters only play 2.5 quarters

By all accounts there’s a chance that this game Friday night will be close. Vegas opened the spread at 11.5 points in favor of Michigan State, but that line has moved all the way to 14 points as the game approaches. But a 14-point win still wouldn’t be a blowout and would force Michigan State’s starters to play most if not the entire game.

But I don’t see that happening. I think Michigan State’s going to start fast and score on their first three possessions without allowing FAU to find the endzone. That big lead will be held all throughout the game and MSU will find themselves up by at least 20 points at halftime.

Going into the second half the defense will get another stop with another quick score from the offense and that will mark the end of the night for most of Michigan State’s starters.

It would be very nice if this did end up happening to avoid the risk of injury to key players, but this also would allow guys further down the depth chart to get some much needed experience. You never know when Smith may have to call on them later this season, so the more playing time they can get now the better for the team in the long run.
