2025 Michigan State football breakout candidate is making waves in practice
While all of our attention is rightfully on the 2024 Michigan State football season one thing has caught my eye that is already getting me excited about next year.
Jonathan Smith has started a weekly tradition this year where he announces his Scout Team Players of the Week before every game. These guys are ones that likely will not see the field on Saturdays this fall but the work they do is extremely important to help the team prepare week to week. So the fact that these guys are getting some recognition is really cool to see.
But one player in particular has caught my eye because he was just named Scout Team Player of the Week for the third time already this season.
Jaylan Brown is a freshman wide receiver who has been the most impressive player on Michigan State's scout team so far this sesaon. He as been given this weekly award three out of five times now which is impossible not to notice.
Brown had a very solid senior season in high school in Texas where he made 55 catches for 908 yards and 11 touchdowns. This was good enough for 247Sports to make him a three-star player and the No. 66 wide receiver in the country.
Sure some of you may be wondering why he isn't getting time on the field considering all of the injuries Michigan State's wide receiver room has suffered so far this season, but I still think this is the right choice by Smith. I think it's important that Brown keeps his redshirt that way he still has another four years he can spend in East Lansing.
Michigan State is also already getting back Jaron Glover this week against Ohio State and there's a good chance Nick Marsh could follow suit as he is a "game time" decision on Saturday.
So for now Brown can continue to find a lot of success on the scout team, but don't be surprised to hear his name a lot this coming offseason and during the 2025 regular season.
