Three weeks ago, Porter Martone was preparing for a Frozen Four run that he expected to lead to a national title during his freshman year. Now, he's nine games into his NHL career, making history with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Life comes at you fast.
Martone's NHL career got started a little earlier (by about two weeks) than he had probably hoped for, but the trade-off has been well worth it.
Through nine games, Martone has 10 points after adding two more on Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens. With those two points, that pushes his point streak to six games which is already the longest by a Flyers teenager in 32 years, per MSU hockey's official X account.
9 points in 9 games for Porter Martone! He ties Sean Couturier for the longest point streak by a Flyers teenager (6 games) since 1993-94! https://t.co/TqeAPO0oXo

Martone added an assist later on in Tuesday night's game after scoring the opening goal just eight minutes in and he's up to four goals and six assists through nine outings. After being held point-less in his NHL debut at the end of March, Martone has been piping-hot, posting nine points over his past six games.
People seem to be forgetting that he's only been in the NHL for two weeks.
Everyone wishes the Spartans' 2025-26 season ended differently, but Adam Nightingale has to be absolutely thrilled for his former star player.
Plus, talk about a great recruiting pitch: we put guys in the NHL and they become stars in two weeks.
Michigan State hockey is going to be just fine
If you're Nightingale, you have to feel pretty good about your program despite back-to-back-to-back heart-wrenching ends to the season in the NCAA Tournament.
After the first one, he just reloaded, and he did the same after the second. Now, he's going to have to reload after losing a handful of players to the NHL like Martone and Trey Augustine. The team is going to look a little different at the top next season, but Nightingale is already reloading.
The Spartans have already reportedly landed Arizona State's Cullen Potter and they also landed Minnesota forward Jimmy Clark, per Nathaniel Bott.
Nightingale added two NHL draft picks and a backup goalie via the transfer portal and the window just opened on Tuesday. It's incredible what this man can do in terms of roster building.
Now it's time to win some titles.
