Michigan State football coach Pat Fitzgerald has gotten his first signing day flip, extended his first 2027 class offers, and now he has his first crystal ball prediction.
Fitzgerald is going to have a lot of firsts over the next couple of years, but this crystal ball first shows that he’s working quickly with his first batch of recruits.
The new head coach has been extending offers left and right, and it looks like he’s zeroing in on landing his first commit. Nothing is for certain, but Michigan State is trending in the right direction for an in-state prospect in the 2027 class. Shortly after offering the cousins of former Michigan State star and NFL defensive back Khari Willis, Michigan State received a crystal ball to land him.
According to Michigan State 247Sports reporter Corey Robinson, Michigan State is the new favorite to land unranked 2027 athlete Lundon Hampton.
This is the first crystal ball prediction that Fitzgerald has received as Michigan State head coach.
Completing the Michigan State coaching staff will help
Fitzgerald’s first priority since becoming head coach has been hiring his coaching staff. He’s hired his offensive and defensive coordinators, a receivers coach, a tight ends coach, a offensive line coach, a safeties coach, and a special teams coordinator.
Hiring his staff and focusing on building relationships with recruits is going to be important when it comes time to piece together a 2027 recruiting class.
Hampton has the size to play either defensive back or wide receiver at 6-foot-2 and about 185 pounds. So having a safeties coach and receivers coach in place had to help with the Grand Rapids, Mich., prospect. He’s received almost a dozen FBS offers, mostly from MAC schools, but he’s also received scholarships from Kansas, Cincinnati, and Pitt.
Michigan State needs to address the defensive line, running backs, and another defensive backs coach before it can truly dive into recruiting the 2027 class, but Fitzgerald’s off to a good start.
The Spartans need to take advantage of Michigan also going through a coaching change. This is an opportunity for Fitzgerald to get a head start on in-state recruiting for 2027.
It looks like it’s already paying off.
