Friday was a big day for EA Sports College Football video game nerds like myself.
The database for player ratings was revealed and there were several surprises on Michigan State’s roster. I already wrote about the top-rated player being surprising as UConn running back transfer Cam Edwards led all Spartans with a 90 overall rating — just an 89 speed rating, though.
It was interesting to see how EA Sports perceived the rest of Michigan State’s roster so I thought I’d share who the video game franchise has as the Spartans’ top 10 rated players.
Here’s who the top 10 Spartans in College Football 27 are:
- Cam Edwards (90)
- Jordan Hall (86)
- Charles Brantley (85)
- Chrishon McCray (85)
- Rhys Dakin (84)
- Ben Roberts (83)
- Ben Murawski (83)
- Conner Moore (83)
- Dion Crawford (82)
- Nikai Martinez/Tre Bell (81)
There’s not necessarily “elite” talent on the 2026 roster, but Edwards may be the closest thing that Michigan State has to an All-American candidate. Although I’d argue that would be Jordan Hall.
These ratings tell me one thing: Michigan State is going to have a run game again.
EA Sports predicts that Michigan State’s run game will be a strength
The top 10 Spartan player ratings are predicting that Michigan State’s run game is going to return to the glory days. While that prediction may not come to fruition, at least we’re not the only ones who believe that the offensive line and backfield will finally become a strength simultaneously for the first time in years.
Edwards leads all Spartans with a 90 overall rating and projected backup Jaziun Patterson is an 80.
Paving the way for Edwards are Ben Murawski and Conner Moore. Those are two of the Spartans’ top eight players, per EA Sports, and that tells me that Michigan State is in good hands in the run game. I do believe that some of the line’s ratings are unfair like Trent Fraley (75), Rustin Young (77), Nick Sharpe (77), and Luka Vincic (74). I think EA Sports is undervaluing those guys a lot.
A Michigan State offense with a run game is going to be a breath of fresh air this season and the last time that happened, East Lansing was celebrating a win over Michigan as well as a Peach Bowl victory.
Pat Fitzgerald is following the Mark Dantonio blueprint, all the way down to the run game being made a focal point on offense.
