Is the rest of college basketball about to sit around while Tom Izzo gets hot on the recruiting trail? It hasn’t happened quite yet, but Michigan State’s head coach is starting to build an impressive board of 2027 recruiting targets.

On Sunday, Izzo offered four-star top-40 center Jaydn Jenkins from Warminster, Penn. It was his first public top-50 offer in the 2027 class and fans immediately dove into his game.

Jenkins has elite length and plays a physical brand of basketball around the rim. He’s not going to let you score easily nor is he going to watch as a teammate gets beat to the basket — he’s going to act. Pennsylvania’s No. 1 recruit may not have the smoothest jumper right now, but he’s proving at the high school level that he can at least hit it and keep defenses honest.

Izzo wasn’t done after Jenkins, though.

On Monday, reports surfaced that Michigan State was hosting four-star top-60 combo guard Joshua Tyson from Ohio. It was a pleasant surprise to fans who probably didn’t know his name before the reported visit, and it didn’t take very long into his unofficial visit to receive an offer.

Only a handful of 2027 targets have announced public offers so far, but an elite prospect on back-to-back days makes me think that Izzo is about to do some full-court pressing to sew up his class before the 2026-27 season starts. Obviously he wouldn’t be too mad about hosting official visits during huge games during the season, but he’s at least trying to kick off the class with a bang.

Michigan State won’t have a huge 2027 class

Michigan State’s 2026 recruiting class, counting transfers, was a whopping five deep. The 2025 class was just two deep with Cam Ward and Jordan Scott as the lone commits. The 2027 class will probably be another two-man group.

The Spartans aren’t going to be losing much after the 2026-27 season, although there is potential for some surprise departures like Jasiah Jervis or Jeremy Fears (not as big of a surprise) to the NBA draft or a player or two to the transfer portal. The expected departures are Fears, Anton Bonke, and Coen Carr — and Fears isn’t yet a lock to leave.

Because of that, I believe this will be a smaller class, likely two signees, with supplemental additions coming via the transfer portal, if needed.

The team’s continuity over the next two years is going to lead to big things.
