Michigan State is gearing up for one of the biggest recruiting weekends in a while with five four-star prospects coming to campus, but there are now four commitments who will be on campus, too.
Savior Owens, a three-star running back commit, is the latest 2027 Spartan pledge who announced that he’ll be on campus for an official visit over the next month. This is going to help the coaching staff convince some of the other 2027 prospects to join them.
According to Ryan O’Bleness of Spartans Illustrated, Owens will be on campus on May 29 for the biggest recruiting weekend of the Pat Fitzgerald era.
He’s going to be on campus with fellow commits Ty’ire Clark, Grant Adloff, and Jack Carlson and they’ll all be teaming up to try and convince guys like Anthony Cartwright, Caleb Johnson, Reinaldo Perez, Nehemiah Ombati, and Marvin Nguetsop to commit to the green and white. Owens will have a team of commits to help recruit future teammates.
Getting commits to campus is also great for chemistry building with future teammates and the coaching staff. It’s important that coaches continue to recruit committed players because other schools are going to make a push inevitably.
May 29 is the perfect start to official visit season for Fitzgerald and the Spartans because there are several big-time players coming to East Lansing.
This may be the biggest high-profile weekend since Mel Tucker.
The following weekends are also huge for Michigan State
Every official visit weekend is important, but the first two will feature multiple Spartan commits and that goes a long way as I’ve already mentioned.
The following weekend of June 5 will feature four-star Michigan State defensive line commit Ohimai Ozolua and three-star defensive end Jack Schuler. There are several others who could be on commit watch that weekend like Drew Aagesen, Ryan Pankey, George Murray III, Lawrence Kanneh, and Missouri commit Caleb Green.
The weekend of June 12 is going to much more exclusive — as of right now — with four-stars Dominic Black and Ronnie Gomiller on campus along with a couple of rising three-stars.
Fitzgerald is setting up a huge official visit month and I’d be shocked if the Spartans didn’t come away with five-plus commits. They’re in a good spot with several top targets and we’re about to see just how well Fitzgerald can close.
