Michigan State is adding injury to insult in the third quarter against UCLA. The Bruins jumped out to a 24-7 first-half lead in East Lansing, and a second-half comeback could be even tougher for the Spartans after junior quarterback Aidan Chiles had to exit the game on MSU’s first drive of the second half.
Chiles spun into a big hit on a scramble, and he appeared to suffer a hit to the head. He was tended to by trainers on the field and was helped to the sideline, where he was brought to the medical tent for evaluation. Redshirt freshman quarterback Alessio Milivojevic entered the game and failed to complete his first two pass attempts, leading to a turnover on downs.
Milivojevic also saw action in Michigan State’s 38-27 loss to Nebraska last week, connecting on six of his seven attempts for 71 yards and a touchdown. The 2024 three-star recruit had attempted just two career passes prior to last week’s loss.
Chiles was a highly-touted recruit who followed head coach Jonathan Smith from Oregon State when he took the job in East Lansing. However, he has struggled to deliver on that potential through his first season and a half with the Spartans. Heading into Week 7, Chiles was completing 63 percent of his throws for 953 yards, and 7.6 yards per attempt with nine touchdowns to three interceptions.
Through the first half against UCLA, Chiles went 8-for-17 for 66 yards. However, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound California native did record his fifth rushing touchdown of the season.
Latest Aidan Chiles injury update:
Chiles was tended to on the field after a big hit in the third quarter and was sent to the medical tent for evaluation. He has yet to return to the game and was replaced by Alessio Milovojevic.
Aidan Chiles is hurt. Tried to spin away from a tackle and ran into an even worse one. Got hit pretty hard and there seemed to be some helmet-to-helmet contact.

UPDATE: After another UCLA scoring drive made it 31-7, Chiles did not return to the game. He is on the Michigan State sideline, but does not have a helmet. Milivojevic remained in the game.
