Michigan State offers late-rising 2027 OL/DL who has ‘always been a Spartan fan’

Pat Fitzgerald has a chance to steal one from some Power Four schools.

Although official visits are quickly approaching and it feels like Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald has identified his top 2027 targets, there are more new names being added to the recruiting board every single day.

Such has been the case with a fast-rising, late-blooming, in-state lineman.

Better yet, that in-state offensive/defensive lineman revealed that he’s “always been a Spartan fan”, per Corey Robinson of 247Sports, which is only going to work in Michigan State’s favor during these last stages of his recruitment. He’s garnering Power Four interest, but those programs may have to move over for a new favorite.

Goodrich, Mich., native Drew Aagesen was offered by Michigan State on Friday and that might shake up his official visit schedule.

As of May 9, Aagesen is set to visit Iowa State, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Pitt over the next 1.5 months of official visits. Adding what’s likely considered his dream school to the list of offers is going to force his hand with an official visit. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him either cancel one of the upcoming visits or push back a potential commitment to wait until he visits Michigan State in the fall.

I’m not about to sit here and speculate which visit could be canceled over the next 1.5 months, but I wouldn’t completely rule it out to make room for the Spartans.

Aagesen is listed as a defensive lineman on 247Sports, but he’s being recruited by Nick Tabacca which makes me believe that he’s being targeted by the Spartans as an offensive lineman. Robinson of 247Sports also hinted at that, calling him an offensive lineman.

He’s currently unranked but holds offers from Boston College, Pitt, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Iowa State, among a handful of MAC programs.

This feels like a recruitment that Pat Fitzgerald should win

Getting in with an offer right before official visit season and after the recruit already has a full schedule of trips to make to Power Four programs doesn’t often yield a ton of success on the trail, but in this particular situation with Aagesen growing up a Michigan State fan, Fitzgerald has to close on this one.

You just can’t let an under-the-radar recruit from your own backyard escape the state to play for a fellow Big Ten program and become a thorn in your side for years.

Fitzgerald has Aagesen’s attention and he has to work to get a visit from him before his commitment. If he can get the unranked lineman on campus, it should be Michigan State’s recruitment to lose.
